Combination Dagger and Pistol

  • Dated: circa 1800
  • Provenance: Ottoman Empire

The weapon has three-stage, smoothbore barrels with rings at the girdle. The first part is octagonal with three Arabic stamps and gilded floral decorations. The two round sections are decorated en suite and have blueing remains, especially the lower one, 12 mm caliber.

The smooth plate lock is decorated en suite, featuring a sliding pan that functions as a change lever for the two barrels. The area behind the cock is silver plated, engraved with crescents, stars, trophies and a sun.

The part between the two barrels is made of wood and is richly inlaid with filigree waves, two silver barrel brackets, one in the middle and the other one at the nozzle.

The straight stock is shaped as a khanjar dagger’s grip, completely silver plated, the girdle is engraved and shows gilded remains. The upper part is removable and provided with a ribbed, double-edge damascus blade, with bone inlays at the base.
